Pilonidal sinus Treatment

Pilonidal sinus is a painful and recurring condition that occurs near the tailbone (coccyx), often due to hair and debris becoming trapped under the skin. The resulting sinus or cyst can become infected, leading to discomfort, swelling, and discharge. Many conventional treatments focus only on infection removal, but often fail to prevent recurrence permanently.

At Om Ayurvedic Clinic in Pune, we specialize in a scientifically refined Ayurvedic therapy – Kshar Sutra treatment – offering a long-term and reliable solution for pilonidal sinus without complex surgery. Our method combines traditional wisdom with modern precision to heal this condition effectively

Pilonidal sinus treatment is always a big challenge to cure since long time. Many studies have conducted to see actual percentage of patients in population. In United States, nearly 70,000 patients found each year. Ayurvedic or Homeopathic medicines / treatment can’t cure it permanently.

Modern science has kept it’s search for a technique open to assure permanent cure. They tried to improved cutting tools for surgery and replaced scissors / blades to laser. But they kept their focus on the concept that ‘only on removal of infection is enough’. If this is really true, modern science must have assured cure.

What is Pilonidal sinus?

A pilonidal sinus is a tract beneath the skin near the buttocks that often contains hair, tissue debris, and bacteria. Over time, this can lead to chronic infection, pain, swelling, and abscess formation. Hair and dirt get trapped in the cleft of the buttocks, leading the body to form a tunnel-like sinus that can be difficult to heal with medications alone.

This condition is more common in:

🔴 Men (due to denser body hair)

🔴 Individuals with sedentary lifestyles

🔴 Those who are overweight

🔴 People with deep natal clefts

🔴 Those with prior irritation or trauma to the area

When hair and it’s root get infected, the hair may not come out side skin. It may travel below skin spreading infection to other hair roots. This infection grows in the mid line of body and may have 1 / 2 or more holes involved. It may remain for 2/4 or more years if untreated. When the infection get locked below skin due to blocking of hair holes. When infection increases inside the skin, the abscess creates pressure and pain. The pain subsides only when the cyst bursts.

Symptoms of Pilonidal sinus

🔹 Multiple holes mostly in a straight line at lower back with bunch of hair coming few holes

🔹 Pus discharge from the lump on lower back

How is Pilonidal sinus diagnosed?

Probing

Doctors can diagnose pilonidal sinus  by examining the area around the tailbone. They will look for an external opening on the skin. The doctor will then try to determine how deep the sinus is, and the direction in which it is going. In many cases, there can be drainage, hair coming out from the external opening. Doctor may need further tests to confirm the structure –
